    4. Though it starts off decidedlyee, I really liked reading about the Farm Sanctuary story how it got started and why, and all the stories of various animals and how they came to live there and of the various human lives those animals have touched and changed It s a quick read, mainly about why eating a plant based diet is a good thing Baur touches on a lot of different issues with factory farming and our food system, including the massive amounts of land, energy, and water factory farming requires [...]

    5. I ll admit, this probably got a higher rating because I got this book after hearing Gene speak at my local Vegfest in 2016 He s an inspiring presenter and I finally made the leap from long time almost vegan to full vegan after that day I don t fan girl over many, but Gene I stood in line to have him sign my book Not not does he live what he speaks, but he s so full of compassion, it s contagious He just makes people around him want to be better. For whom would this book be a good fit The animal l [...]

    6. What I enjoy so much about reading is the taking us to the next level in our lives here on earth Gene Baur enlightens us by living fully and sharing what it means to live knowingly, with awareness of the other living animals on our planet This book has made me aware of the choices I make in my eating and how those choices affect other living beings life and death For example just by giving up chicken I would save 31 chickens a year I am by no means a vegetarian or vegan, but have adopted the Me [...]

    8. Pretty good, though it s preaching to the choir, here I am not a Farm Sanctuary member, but I like to support vegan books, especially when they re not just cookbooks The last 60% of the book includes recipes which I skimmed over I don t cook, but it looked like there was good variety, in types of foods and in prep effort some recipes taking 10 or 20 mins, some taking hours The thing I loved about this book were the photos Happy Animals I wish I had the opportunity to photograph farmed animals o [...]

    9. This book promotes a vegan lifestyle and includes recipes There are 3 Farm Sanctuaries that care for animals that have previously lived on factory farms I want to visit

    10. One of the best books I ve read on why to go vegan from an animal rights perspective, very moderate and all encompassing yet tells the hard truth A must read

    11. Life changing bookThis book shows how meat based diets are harmful to you, your soul and the environment This makes you know you can charge the World

    12. From Witty Kitty s Book Blog We loved this book It s a nice, big, glossy coffee table book by the founder of the Farm Sanctuary in Woodstock, NY, Gene Baur It s a combination of little vignettes illustrating what it s like to live at the sanctuary, where your friends consist of cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, sheep, and ducks, stories about some of the animals and how they came to live there, lovely photos of the animal residents and the people who come to visit, facts about the health ben [...]

    13. I was so interested to read about this sanctuary Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting past the sanctimony let s be honest I didn t get past the sanctimony A supposed save the earth and animals and yourself message touted the use of almond milk check out the effects of almond farming on the water table and encouraged eating fake meats Have you read about those processed ingredients This book seems nothing now but an attention getting, PR tool.

    14. even though i am pretty much vegan, i did not agree with everything in this book, but it was fun to learn about the farm sanctuary and the mix of recipes was collected from a wide range of chefs, authors, and restaurants so was nicely diverse and hardly any fake meat to be found.

    15. This book has a bio of Farm Sanctuary, lovely photos, interesting recipes, and information on how and why a person might be moved to transition to plant based eating In addition is info on specific animals at the sanctuary I enjoyed reading all of this book with one exception. There was a short piece about a former small farm pig farmer, in his own words He told of his first group of pigs, purchased to raise for slaughter, and about the runt of the littler that almost starved to death This farmer [...]

    16. I m not really sure this book would persuade anyone to go vegan, to be honest There is a great deal of information about the environment and health that is accurate, though I think it is too much info at one quick time which doesn t work for most people at least according to studies I ve read There were actual study findings included to back up the statements, though they were not terribly in depth and overall felt rushed The stories that were included were often weak and I know there are better [...]

    17. What a beautifully constructed book with wonderful photos throughout The first half of the book tells the story of Farm Sanctuary along with some touching stories of some of the animals and non preachy style writing with tips on how even the smallest changes can make a big difference in the welfare of animals , the health of the planet, and in your own health and well being Even if you are not vegan or not even interested in going fully vegan, this book is worth checking out.The book is an acces [...]

    18. I received this book through giveaways.I was looking for a book that would help me plan meatless meals I was cautious when entering this giveaway because often when reading opinion based books there is only one side not two I really enjoyed reading this book because it did not feel preachy or judgemental It had good explainations and suggestions It did not feel like because I eat meat that the author was judging me, he just provided option of how to change things slowly I think this is a great [...]

    19. This book was an amazing trip into what we could all be and a way of life that would make a difference The devotion to the animals that they have become the caretakers for is truly beautiful and at times heartbreaking The cherish the earth and plant accordingly I wish I had the strength to live the life that Gene Baur and his family and friends live By the time I got done reading the book I was even checking available times to go and either stay or visit I wanted so to live the life he has set o [...]

    20. Enjoyed this book especially for the gorgeous animal photos and great recipesI m already vegan but appreciated the concise breakdown of the reasons and benefits It starts by explaining how Animal Sanctuary was co founded by Gene Baur, includes lots of touching animal stories and the fundamentals on why choosing a plant based diet is best for your health, the environment and most of all, the animals More than half the book is a collection of recipes from famous vegan chefs that look amazing Overa [...]

    21. Wow, what a good book It s only one half of a good book because the other half is vegan recipes. It reminded me to think about where my food comes from and to eat morally I do love animals, so why do I eat them And the horrid conditions of factory farms makes me embarrassed to do this to another creature just so I can eat I am going vegan for sure now even if little by little as I learn dairy, cheese and egg replacements.Definitely a life changing book if you can hear the message.

    22. If you want to read a book that tries to convince you to become a vegan or at worst a vegetarian, this is your book He is absolutely correct, its the best thing you can do for the environment and factory farms can be horrific but its a stretch to think that your average joe is going to go from eating meat every meal to a vegan overnight, but that s how this book kind of reads Half the book is recipes I ll be trying them for sure, if they are good, maybe this goes up to a four star, who knows

    23. This book has beautiful photography, delicious recipes, and great ideas I am not vegan, but the ideas of being thoughtful in how we interact with our world and our food are exactly how I live my life And as I plan to have my own farm, this book describes how beautiful and fulfilling the farm sanctuary can be I am proof that a life like this is healing and helps you to feel better Love this book and looking forward to trying my own takes on the recipes shared I don t do soy or tofu, but plan to [...]

    24. This book has it all for anyone who is or is thinking about becoming vegan First and foremost for me are the absolutely gorgeous photographs of animals at the Farm Sanctuary Then all the compelling evidence of why plant based is best for our health and the health of our planet And lastly, but not least, are the amazing recipes I m going to have to cook my way through them all A visit to Farm Sanctuary is now definitely on my bucket list I can t wait to play with the pigs and chickens and cows an [...]

    25. A good overview of Farm Sanctuary s work, reasons to go vegan, pointers for living simply and sanely, and over 100 recipes, each from a different chef Love all the photos and stories of rescued farm animals Plus the stories of people whose lives were completely changed as a result of their interactions with the animals at the Sanctuary VegNews magazine chose this as their 2015 Book of the Year.

    26. Beautiful pictures and quotes on a way of living that is morally correct and profoundly healthy Reading this book just makes you feel good and validates a cruelty free life I was so touched by the human animal relationship stories I wish everyone would read and be open to what this beautiful and thoughtful book has to say Also the recipes look wonderful I love the philosophy of Farm Sanctuary and the sweet way they try and change the minds of meat eaters.

    27. There are many vegan cookbooks and many vegan nutrition books, but I think this format compassionate living guidebook combined with a recipe section is a needed and meaningful addition to the stock of vegan books out there The first section speaks of universal human values and how they can be better satisfied with a vegan lifestyle the second section features a smorgasbord of recipes from a range of contributors with a nice variety of course, cuisine, and culinary level.
