    1. Last year, John David Anderson s super charged superhero adventure Sidekicked thrilled and entertained readers especially this reader , and Anderson returns to this superhero and villain filled world in Minion.Minion, a companion, not sequel or prequel, to Sidekicked, is set in a whole new city with a whole new cast of characters In New Liberty there are no Supers, only the haves and the have nots Thirteen year old Michael and his adoptive father live in the have not side of town, yet pretty muc [...]

    2. I read this book because I needed a little pallet cleansing After reading so many hot PNR books I have to numb my mind a little Minion is a YA humorous with a little bit of action sprinkled here and there Michael spends most of his youth in an orphanage and realizes that he has powers, the power of persuasion One dark an lonely day, not really I just wanted to say that, Michael is adopted and whisked away to the only home is to know His step father is somewhat of an inventor and he makes black b [...]

    3. Well, I didn t really know what to expect But this is a great read It kept me on the edge of my seat There are good characters, bad characters and then there are the ones in between good and bad Which is where I would put Michael and his dad I think middle school readers will really enjoy this And there is a perfect in my mind set up for a sequel If the author is so inclined

    4. This is such a fantastic book A perfect companion novel to SideKicked This story is told from the perspective of the bad guys and criminals, hoping not to be caught by the superheroes It s not a sequel to SideKicked though, because all the characters are new Different people, different city, different story.I thought it was very interesting that the word minion comes from and old French word mignon meaning darling It explores the meaning of good and evil and the limits of family relationships, f [...]

    5. Michael was abandoned at a White Castle as a baby and raised in an orphanage near New Liberty, and is eventually adopted by his dad, who is a mad scientist who lives off the grid and events gadgets for evil doers He takes very good care of Michael even though their home is a bit thread bare Michael is friends with Zach Romano, another orphan adopted by Tony, who has New Liberty under his thumb in a Mafia like way The two like to hang out at the local mall and gawk awkwardly at girls, and this is [...]

    6. I loved Sidekicked, so I m excited for this one Finished Okay, I loved the book itself BUT, the ending could have beenwwaayybetter view spoiler I meanwhat about his dad And is Violareallythe Comet s sidekick PLEASE TELL ME WHATS GOING ON Also, the whole fight scene ended so abruptly that I was still waiting for something like a grand finale or something hide spoiler But all in all, I thought this was a pretty good companion to Sidekicked, even though none of the characters from the books have a [...]

    7. A bit slower to read than Sidekicked and it almost felt YA but I did like it The of Dave s books I read, the I like him He has a way of combining humor, emotion and excitement into one and is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

    8. My kids and I just love these books I like this one than Sidekicked even though it s about the bad guys They are exciting and funny and the characters are truly lovable, even when they are breaking the rules.

    9. The reader is introduced to Michael Marion Magdalene Morn He is robbing a bank with a fake bomb strapped to his body As he and his dad drive away, Mike tells us he is adopted from St Mary of the Woods School for Wayward Boys.He has a power to make people do his bidding His dad, Benjamin Edson is an inventor He robs banks to support his inventions They live in an area where people pay the mob for protection The stability of the community is threatened when masked men start robbing banks and a Blu [...]

    10. Very fun superhero novel that had a good balance of adventure and the inevitable teenage romance drama I really liked the themes of looking at the life of someone who grew up on the bad guy side of things, and their perspective on everything I would love to see of these characters.

    11. This book reminded me a a lot of the movie Megamind What, you might say, they have nothing in common.but they doEvil can be goodthat in mindI really want to read the first book and can t wait for the third one

    12. Now that was much less straightforward and far thought provoking than Sidekicked Is there really good and evil, or is it all just in between Where, and for whom, will you draw the line

    13. Good but not great An easy read kinda spoiled by the weird endingRead it if you have nothing better talk about damned with faint praise

    15. Michael Marion Magadlene Morn Edson was found in a White Castle by St Mary of the Woods School for Wayward boys when he was just a baby There was no tearful goodbye on a doorstep, or anything like that for Michael What he discovered there, as he got older, was that he had his very own super power He was able to suggest things to people Within reason, and they had to be open to the idea in the first place, but if they were he could look them in the eyes and get them to do what he wanted them to d [...]

    16. Michael Morn lives in a series of grey areas He is technically a bad guy, in that he helps his dad rob banks and do other things the authorities wouldn t exactly give him a medal for But he s not that bad of a guy He and his dad have their clear boundaries They never use real guns or real explosives, or really threaten people with any kind of harm and they only steal what they need to keep food on the table, electricity in the house, and the production of his dad s boxes going Threatening people [...]

    17. This companion to Sidekicked offers a glimpse from the other side of the conflict between superheroes and supervillains, and their sidekicks and henchmen, depicted in Anderson s previous book Apparently, it isn t any easier being brought up to a life of villainy than training for the next generation League of Justice You basically have the same problems as all other teenagers, except with bigger explosions.Michael Marion Magdalene Morn was about a year old when he was found abandoned in a White [...]

    18. Well, here s another one of those reviews that were way too short, meaning that I have to edit it in some way Well, maybe it wouldn t hurt for this one Yeah, mainly because, well, I still haven t gotten some things off my chest Ah, there comes a time where the first book or movie is amazingly written, with impeccable plotting, memorable characters, and happy endings that leave nothing open, meaning that you should never go back to it since it s finished Then the creators or author makes the mind [...]

    19. Originally posted here at Random Musings of a Bibliophile.I read John David Anderson s Sidekicked last year and throughly enjoyed it I was on the committee that shortlisted it for the Cybil s I liked the shades of gray in the story and the attempt to look at the good and evil combined in each person The companion novel, Minion, has all of this and I liked it even This is a review of an ARC received from the publisher in exchange for a fair review. There are those moments in your life, you know, [...]

    20. My Summary New Liberty The city that nobody s ever heard of The town with two rival crime bosses Tony Romano and Mickey Six Fingers Maloney The town with no Super The town that Michael Marion Magdalene Morn lives in, with his adoptive father, Professor Benjamin Edson They make electronic boxes with unique powers, and sell them to the highest buyer They do small crimes, only stealing what they need It may help that Michael has a hypnotizing gift Surprisingly, the town s crime rate isn t out of ha [...]

    21. After loving Sidekicked, I could not wait to get my hands on Minion I love the author s take on superheroes, giving it one of the realistic twists when it comes to middle grade fiction Minion is the story of Michael, who never felt wanted until he met his dad Just because his dad creates special boxes for the local mob boss doesn t mean he is completely evil, but it definitely complicates things Michael has his own powers as well, he can manipulate people with his mind It s a skill his adopted [...]

    23. This is a companion novel to Sidekicked While that focused on young people training to be sidekicks to Supers, this novel introduces us to Michael Marion Magdalen Morn He is an orphan who started growing up in a orphanage run by nuns before being adopted by his father There is no question that his father loves and cares for him, but he is probably not the best influence for Mike.Mike has a power he can influence people by talking to them It is not something that he generally does to cause a lot [...]

    24. Michael was an orphan living at St Mary s until his dad adopted him They live in New Liberty, a town with no superheroes or supervillains and they like it like that Michael s dad invents little black boxes that do a number of things Michael discovered at a young age that he does have a super power he can influence people with his mind Of course he doesn t use his power for evil Mostly he just uses it to rob banks for his dad New Liberty is controlled by mob boss Tony Romano who also employs Mich [...]

    25. I enjoyed Sidekicked, but Minion was too much set up and not enough pay off for me It doesn t read like a book that s going to have a sequel it reads like a book that was cut in half. When reading children s books, one thing that s never good is when I get bored I tend to have a better attention span than the target audience, and if I m encouraging the book to hurry up and get a move on, I don t consider that a win for a children s book That was very much the case with Minion. What s doubly odd is [...]

    26. There is a moment, before you open it, when a box can hold almost anything It s the best and the worst moment, full of anticipation and possibility The problem with me is that I always open it I can t resist That s Michael, the main character in Minion, who isn t evil but isn t Captain Fantastic either In this second installment in the Sidekicked series, we are once again introduced to the theme of good vs evil Is anyone ever all bad or all good This was a darker of the two books in the series so [...]

    27. So, not really a sequel to Sidekicked but of another book in the same world This book tells the story of Michael Morn, abandoned as a child, raised in an orphanage, and with the power to compel others to do his bidding Sort of As long as he maintains eye contact, focuses really hard, and suggests something that the person would at least be open to the possibility of He gets adopted by a genius tinkerer who makes ends meet through robbing banks and selling gizmos black boxes, actually to other c [...]

    28. I was blown away by Sidekicked and was looking for another funny, lighthearted read Minion is a much darker book The town of New Liberty is run by 2 crime syndicates, which divides the city into the have and have nots Our main character, Michael, is a have not, but possesses a gift of controlling peoples minds to persuade them to do his bidding He is the adopted son a criminal genius who builds boxes that have various abilities to help commit crimes There is wavering lines of good and evil The c [...]
