    1. Superb One of the latest Barry books and just as creative and wide ranging as ever Contains, for example, a helpful guide to how much extra you should tip a waiter if you re an obnoxious restaurant patron Want everything on the side even though you ll be mixing all your food up anyway Add 10% to the tip Theorizes that money isn t everything The lack thereof, however, makes it harder to sustain a true, fulfilling relationship with a special someone Having loads of money makes it much easier to ha [...]

    2. Dave Barry, as usual, delivers up his twisted sense of humor, this time concerning personal finance He spends an entire chapter making fun of Donald Trump He also pokes fun at Suze Orman, which I thought was hilarious, as she gets on my nerves I don t know if financial junkies will get a kick out of it, but I think average Janes like me will enjoy the ride.

    3. One of the hard questions I get from people is, What kind of books do you like It s a difficult question to answer concisely If you ve followed my reviews for any length of time, you can see that my tastes run the gambit from science to religion, society to science fiction, politics to philosophy I can t easily answer that question and be honest at the same time.I figure that what people are really asking is, What kind of person are you Your answer to the book question will give them some kind o [...]

    4. Personal finance books are my secret passion So, when I saw a parody of one done by Dave Barry, I picked it right up His books are usually hilarious, easy to read, and immensely quotable However, this one missed the mark a little It s not nearly as funny as his other books His jokes were predictable, and paced in the same manner throughout the book Every paragraph seems to be two serious comments, followed by a joke This began to wear on me a little, and I found my self laughing less frequently [...]

    5. I ve always been a big fan of Dave Barry and this book is another delivery of his humor and wit Talking finances is a very difficult subject to make funny, but Dave does a great job of making you laugh out loud when it comes to how poor we all are You ll learn nothing about investing your money, but you will chuckle at his real world humor.

    6. Funny book but sometimes the author is so overly sarcastic it is no longer funny I appreciated the many jabs he took at Suze Orman and Donald Trump.

    7. Dave Barry is such a goofball, and I mean that in the most sincere, affectionate way possible I love his humor and his books are funny, quick reads.

    8. Another great, solid read from Dave Barry It was written ten years ago, and it is shockingly still relevant The jokes aren t dated, thanks to Trump running for president In fact, Barry does a great Trump impression using words and phrases that Trump uses to this day Good to see that that mutant didn t come out of nowhere A lot of what Barry writes about here hits a little too close to home The humor is great, but his observations are spot on Except maybe for that thing about hip hop That s just [...]

    9. I love Dave Barry and have since I was a teenager I know his shtick and never tire of it, but it s rare that I laugh hysterically and loudly for an extended period of time at this point The Stockbroker s Chart had TEARS coming out of my eyes Yes yes yes yes.

    10. Another laugh out loud spoof by Dave Barry 2006 There is a whole chapter on Trump but this is the line I liked best Money, why are people so willing to work, lie, cheat etc even marry Donald Trump for it

    11. Because if you re gonna read Ben Graham s Intelligent Investor, you should also learn about not so intelligent ones, too.

    12. It s a bit of shallow humour that I gladly indulged in and I did laugh out loud many times throughout the book, but towards the second half of the book the jokes get tedious.

    13. Dave Barry s Money Secrets is like a Fantasyland ride through all the stuff that bugs us most in the real world finances, the economy, work and the corporate environment, sending kids to college, marital arguments, dubious infomercials, buying a car and retirement Celebrity value is added with jabs at Suze Orman and Donald Trump throughout the book and mentions of Angelina Jolie and Cher I personally thought one of his best sections was on the corporate world the jabs at Coca Cola messing with s [...]

    14. Funny Funny Funny.I ve never read Dave Barry before, though he s obviously been writing for a while He s written such titles as Claw your way to the Top, Stay Fit and Healthy Until You re Dead, and Boogers are my Beat I just love this guy Money Secrets is 230 pages of laugh out loud fun And I never, ever laugh out loud when I read a book Never But Dave Barry got me laughing, So much so, that it was hard for my family members to read their own books This is soooo funny, I d say You ve got to hear [...]

    15. It amazes me that Dave Barry never seems to run out of subjects to satirize, but it amazes me even that even after writing so many books and so many columns, he is still so hilariously funny He never seems to repeat jokes, and his brand of witty yet sophomoric humour never gets old In this book, Barry turns to the subject of money, offering advice on how to get some that will, I ll warn, get you killed or arrested should you actually follow it Underlying all of it is the basic joke that our soc [...]

    16. Over the years we have come to expect from Dave Berry some of the finniest prose in the English language, and this book does not disappoint He has an incredible skill at turning even the most boring subject matter into something that we can laugh at with reckless abandon In the Money Secrets he takes on the whole genre of self help financial advice books and their self appointed gurus Two people who are particularly in his crosshairs this time around are Suze Orman and Donald Trump By the end of [...]

    17. Dave Barry, the best selling humorist and Pulitzer Prize winner for his commentary and columns for the Miami Herald, reads from and discusses his hilarious new book, Dave Barry s Money Secrets Like Why Is There a Giant Eyeball on the Dollar Did you ever wish that you really understood money Well, Dave Barry wishes that he did, too But that hasn t stopped him from writing this book In it, Dave explores as only he can topics ranging from how the U.S economy works, including the often overlooked ro [...]

    18. There was a point somewhere between the beginning and the middle of this book where I stopped laughing Fortunately, the author changed his approach from the customary tirade against the generic rich to the mockery of Donald Trump s self help book As often happens, effective ridicule has given me the desire to see its object Perhaps, one day, I will learn How to Get Rich Very enthusiastic narration Very short tracks Apparently it doesn t please everyone, but the narration accentuated the humor, I [...]

    19. Do not and I swear I m not making this up do not read this book if you re looking for actual financial advice If you re looking for a couple of laughs, my financial advice is to buy it Better yet, go to the library, get it for free, save the money you would have spent on the book for a mocha latte grande Barry s discussion of financial matters goes free range using the stock market, real estate, and saving for a college education, among others, as stepping off points for his usual clever brand o [...]

    20. This book is classic Dave Barry If you are expecting something new or different from him, you ll be disappointed, but if you find his columns and other books to be funny, you ll enjoy this one, too.If you ve read a bunch of lame personal finance columns, you ll quickly conclude, as Barry has, that this is a subject ripe for ridicule There are a lot of targets, and Barry hits them easily, although I also felt that the book had a tendency to go off on some tangents that weren t that funny, and rel [...]

    21. I just gave this book to a friend who was in the hospital a few weeks ago He still gets headaches if he concentrates too much This book does not make you concentrate, but I told him that if laughing might give him a headache, he should probably not read it Most of what Dave Barry writes is so stupid you have to laugh just at the absurdity, but sometimes he hits the nail so squarely on the head that the tears in your eyes from laughing make it hard to read I can t say that about too many books.Th [...]

    22. This book packages up financial lessons inside humor There is a deeper, valuable lesson for anybody who speaks publicly, writes, or sells anything The humor models used by the author. These can be used to weave throughout your storytelling, sales presentation, or talk to engage the audience and move them to your side much easier.Dan Kennedy recommended this book in his book, Make them Laugh and Take Their Money. If you want to use humor in your talks, writing, or presentations, go through this bo [...]

    23. good break Why are Ivy League schools so expensive Simple they hire the smartest professors in the world, and these professors do nothing the actual classes are taught be graduate students making 9.50 an hour but sit around thinking up ways to jack up tuition Yes, medical care has become hideously expensive in this country Go to any American hospital today to have even a minor surgery such as removal of your tonsils and you re looking at a minimum cost of 13,000 And that s just for parking Why i [...]

    24. I m a huge Dave Barry fan So I was really excited that he took up the topic of money I was looking forward to some big, useful, relieving laughs But this book suggests that maybe some things are just plain unfunny HOWEVER, our Dave is undaunted Perhaps realizing his mistake, he doesn t stay on the subject of money Very cleverly, via a description of travelers checks, he segways into the topic of TRAVEL There he is at his best So if you can persist, you get to what I think is some of the funniest [...]

    25. I always find Dave Barry an amusing writer, so when I found this book available to borrow as an e book for my Nook I did so It was a nice diversion in the middle of reading The Story of Edward Sawtelle, which I struggled through at the end Dave Barry s Money Secrets I did not have to struggle through though It was a quick amusing read If you enjoy Dave Barry s humor you ll like this book in which he gives you some not so great money advice.

    26. There are few people in the history of written comedy as funny as Dave Barry, and, I would argue, no one else alive today The rapid rate of snorts, guffaws, and bellows of laughter which this book elicited made it impossible for me to read in the library, at least without a few dirty looks I will never look at Suze Orman s face the same way again If you want to do yourself a favour, spend a day with this book and get some laughs out of your system It s good for you.

    27. Entertaining EconomicsI m a big Dave Barry fan, but as an economics teacher for forty years I had my doubts as to how he could make money topics funny Well, he far exceeded my expectations This book illustrates how intelligent you have to be to sound silly and stupid Barry provides his usual of the wall humor while addressing all the usual topics discussed by money experts.

    28. Ohhhhhhhhhhh Dave Barry He s a humor god, I m convinced of it There isn t a time I ve read his books that tears of laughter aren t streaming down my face This is one of his best, along with the American history book Freaking hilarious If you re a Dave Barry fan, there s no going wrong with this bookrticularly if you enjoy seeing Suzy Orman s picture a lot lol

    29. Say that I m a management person who works mostly in field of business and economics, and in this book Dave just gave very good illustrative examples and how we should look current economic from different perspective This book is a must I think for those who studying economic, business and finance
